Robert “Bob” Hill has extensive experience in complex civil litigation including particular expertise in product liability, design engineering liability, contract and construction defect litigation in the pre-engineered metal building industry; the steam boiler design and construction industry; and general commercial construction industry. Mr. Hill also has extensive experience involving insurance coverage and defense cases involving general commercial liability, property, errors and omissions, and officer, director and fiduciary liability claims, all of which commonly arise in these areas of business practice.
In representing numerous pre-engineered metal building manufacturers for over 30 years, steel erectors and contractors, Mr. Hill has developed special expertise in the various types of claims related to the design, manufacture, and erection of pre-engineered metal buildings including the defense of law suits arising from more than 70 roof collapses due to snow loads and numerous structural failure claims due to wind, as well as warranty and contract claims of various types involving metal buildings. His work in this area has acquainted Mr. Hill with the leading structural engineering and meteorological experts in the Country and particular familiarity with the applicable codes, standards and Common Industry Practices in the metal building industry and the particular application of product liability, negligence, professional liability and contract law to this industry.
Mr. Hill has obtained favorable summary judgment in these cases in the State and Federal Courts of Pennsylvania, New York, Virginia, Washington, and New Jersey. Mr. Hill has tried snow related roof collapse cases successfully to juries in Pennsylvania and Washington, and settled dozens more of these cases on favorable terms, while also handling the insurance coverage issues which invariably arise in these disputes.
Mr. Hill’s commercial litigation experience also includes representation in contract claims for recovery and defense of contract price and damages, trademark , false advertising, and business tort litigation including claims of business transaction fraud and misrepresentation, employment discrimination, interference with contract and business relations, protection of confidential business and trade secret information, enforcement and defense of restrictive covenants, insurance coverage (including general commercial liability, professional liability and special lines coverage), and tort claims for both personal injury and property damages losses for both self-insured clients, liability insurers and individuals.
Mr. Hill uses state of the art litigation support software and technology necessary for complex cases involving large damages, complex discovery, tens of thousands of documents, electronic discovery and multiple parties with large numbers of witnesses. Mr. Hill also has extensive mediation and arbitration experience and is a registered Mediator in the State of Georgia.
